LINUX WHM & CPANEL FEATURES AND PURPOSE OF USING

What are WHM and cPanel anyway? WHM (Web Host Manager) is a web-based control panel for administrating a Linux server, and it allows you to create and manage cPanel accounts and set certain global settings that apply to all accounts. If you choose to use a cPanel offering, it’s the first feature that gets installed on a Linux server. From the initial installation, you can choose which applications you want to use to utilize various features, allowing you to: Set up and modify user accounts. Customize your alerts for server services, bandwidth and more. Install applications and programming language modules. Create and apply hosting plans. Set up email and spam blocking and SPF records. Integrate new web technologies. Track web site trending and utilization. Manage Bind, FTP, Email, updates and many more features. cPanel is a web based hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a website. cPanel provides capabilities for administrators, resellers, and end-user website owners to control the various aspects of website and server administration through a standard web browser, while still isolating services, disk space, domains, and users. The cPanel control panel is very popular, and it is organized so that most functionality is available via icons on the cPanel home page. For many people, this arrangement makes it easy to locate what they want to do since almost everything is on one page. From this page, you can: Automate and download backup files. Manage email accounts and limits. Control spam through SpamAssassin. Manage files via FTP & built-in File Manager. Manage databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL and phpMyAdmin. Manage DNS and maintain full control over your zone files. View website stats. The WHM/cPanel graphical interface combination will ease the fear of using the more complex command line on today’s Linux servers, with all the options and location of the various configuration files. For example, you can install a WordPress site in one click, or configure 301 and 302 redirects simply by filling in 2 fields without having to know all the file locations or proper syntax required. All of your site stats are easily viewable, from the number of visitors and their locations to a breakdown of day by day visits and bandwidth used. As with any Linux software, there are alternative “Control Panels” available out there, but at Diagram, we have found that cPanel integration and APIs are a great building block for what we want to accomplish and provide to our customers.
